Delta’s, coasts and rivers are facing enormous pressures worldwide. Land subsidence, sea level rise, erosion, loss of biodiversity, pollution, poor waste management, rapid urbanisation, floods and droughts are among the many challenges.

These challenges are aggravated by the effects of climate change. Temperatures worldwide are rising resulting in changing weather patterns and accelerating sea level rise. It is predicted that the effects of these changes will be significant although the magnitude of changes is uncertain.

The challenge for society is now to address this all in an integrated and inclusive way taking into account the uncertainties facing us.
